What are empty calories?

Empty calories =  measure of the digestible energy present in high-energy foods with little nutritional value.
An empty calorie has the same energy content as any other calorie, BUT lacks nutrition's (such as vitamines, dietary minerals, antioxidants, amino acids or dietary fibers).

All people need certain essential nutritiens, but as we know - calorie intake must be balanced with calories used (determined by basal metabolism and activity level) to maintain a proper body weight.

Empty calories are typically processed carbohyrates (like sugar), alchohol and some fats (solid fat).

All people needs calories as fuel, BUT we don't want them from food containing allot of calories, and no essential nutrients! Food and drinks containing empty calories, usually contains allot of them in a small package, and we usually overeat on them and then we get fat, and even get diet related diseases like insuline resistance and diabetes!
Or if you se it the other way, if you are watching your calories, but still are eating the empty ones - you will simply suffer from malnutrition, because you are not getting the essential nutritions the body needs to function.
SO its not all about how your body looks on the outside - take care of the inside to ;)

Where does the empty callories hide?

Typically in drinks and food like this:

Take care of your body!!

peace out ;)
